Veteran litigator and firm shareholder Joe Bocock was interviewed for a Journal Record feature about young associates playing a vital role in the courtroom.
“Jury members often are cheering for younger lawyers as they watch them try so hard, even though they sometimes struggle,” he told The Journal Record. He uses associates in trials frequently for tactical reasons
“One of the things that it usually signals is that you’re not afraid of the testimony of the witness or of losing the argument at hand.”
Bocock also lets young lawyers conduct direct examinations.
"It signals to the jury or trier of fact that you’re not afraid about protecting that person during cross-examination. This is such a self-evident witness that the younger lawyer can defend them on redirect.”
